Alabama's Senators Vote Against Stimulus Package

Montgomery, Alabama – Alabama's two senators, Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby, both Republicans, voted against the economic stimulus plan that passed Tuesday in the U.S. Senate.

Shelby, Alabama's senior senator, speaking in Montgomery just prior to the vote is critical of the measure. Shelby said he does not believe the stimulus plan should be the focus of attention; instead, Shelby argues the government should work to correct the nation's banking system.

Shelby and Sessions joined with all but three other Republicans who voted against the bill. The $838 billion dollar economic stimulus package passed the Senate on a 61 to 37 vote.
