Alabama's First Missing Persons Day

Families of missing persons and law enforcement agencies came together in Montgomery Tuesday for training and support group meetings.  It was the state's first ever Missing Persons Day.  Montgomery County District Attorney Darryl Bailey says families need to feel empowered.  Bailey says there are 169 people currently missing in Alabama.  For more information from the event, you can call 832-2550.  

Severe Weather

Emergency management agency personnel across the state are urging Alabamians to take advantage of the 4th annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax holiday that starts this weekend.  Beginning at midnight on Friday and ending at midnight on Sunday, shoppers can stock up on items that include batteries, weather radios, generators, tarps and duct tape, free of state sales tax.  Dozens of counties and cities also are participating, additional information can be found at the Alabama Department of Revenue website.

A food processing company is planning to build a facility in Opelika and create more than 100 new jobs.  Golden State Foods Corporation headquarterd in California, is planning to build a meat processing facility at a cost of between $40 and $45 million.  Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller and Golden State executives said that the company plans to create 173 jobs at the plant.
