By Ala. community, technical colleges may raise tuition
Montgomery, AL – (AP) - The Alabama Board of Education says the
state's community and technical colleges may raise their tuition
and fees by 15 percent to make up for lost revenue.
The board conducted a work session Thursday and voted to
consider a plan that would raise by $420 the cost of a year of
community college for the typical student.
System officials said the network of 26 two-year schools has
lost more than $90 million in state funding in the past two years.
The proposal was endorsed by every two-year college president in
the system and is expected to be on the agenda for the board's next
meeting Oct. 22.
