Alabama Takes Drug Company To Court

Montgomery, Alabama –
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Opening statements are to be given in
the trial of the state of Alabama's lawsuit accusing generic drug
producer Sandoz Inc. of overpricing.
Attorneys for the state and for Sandoz will give the opening
statements beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Montgomery County Circuit
Judge Charles Price's courtroom.
A jury of eight men and six women was chosen Monday to hear the
trial. The jury includes two alternates.
Sandoz is one of more than 70 companies the state sued in 2005
for allegedly overcharging the state's Medicaid program for
prescription drugs.
In earlier trials, juries returned verdicts against drug
manufacturers AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis. Sandoz is
a subsidiary of Novartis with U.S. headquarters in Princeton, N.J.
