Alabama State Troopers Urge Motorists To Bucke Up

Each year at this time, Alabama State Troopers remind motorists to buckle up as they head out to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends and family.  But each year, traffic accidents claim lives or cause serious injury to people not using seatbelts.  Sgt. Steve Jarrett with the Alabama law Enforcement Agency says the reasons people give for not strapping in run the gamut.  Just this past weekend, 11 people were killed in crashes.  Of those victims, seven were not wearing a seat belt.  Sgt. Jarrett says so far this year, more than 50 percent of those killed in traffic accidents were not restrained.

Pedestrian Killed

An accident in west Montgomery has claimed the life of a pedestrian.  Emergency personnel were called to Ashley Road between Western Boulevard and Swann Street last night around 9:35 on a report of a crash involving a PT Cruiser and a woman walking in the area.  The pedestrian has been identified as 31-year-old Alma Artez of Montgomery.  Police say the woman reportedly entered the lane of traffic where the vehicle was traveling.  No other information is available.

Murder-Suicide

Montgomery police now believe the two people found dead in the 500 block of Percy Drive Monday morning are subjects involved in a murder-suicide.  In a statement, police report that an adult female apparently shot a male juvenile before taking her own life.  No names have been released at this time.  The victims were discovered Monday around 8:15 a.m. with fatal injuries.  The investigation is ongoing.
