Alabama to execute death row inmate for 1992 homicide

By Alabama death row prisoner scheduled to die Thursday

Atmore, AL – (AP) - Death row inmate Max Landon Payne is
scheduled to die by lethal injection for the 1992 kidnapping,
robbery and murder of a Cullman County store owner.
The 38-year-old Payne is to die at 6 p.m. Thursday in the
execution chamber at Holman Prison in Atmore.
He was convicted of kidnapping Brown from his store and shooting
him in the face at close range with a shotgun. Payne's body was
dumped into Crooked Creek near the West Point community in
northwest Cullman County.
Payne was moved into a holding cell near the execution chamber
Tuesday and spent Wednesday visiting with a dozen friends and
relatives.
He is scheduled to be the sixth person executed in Alabama this
year.
