(AP) - Attorney General Troy King reportedly was a featured guest at a Houston County developer's party in January, a few months before King's office issued an advisory opinion clearing the way for the developer to get a gambling
The Birmingham News reports that the opinion advised Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes that he had no choice but to issue a bingo permit once certain conditions were met. That boosted the prospects of Ronnie Gilley's proposed Country Crossing development.
King's chief of staff, Chris Bence, said there was no conflict of interest in King attending Gilley's party and his office issuing the opinion. He told the News King was traveling and not available for comment.
