Ala tax offficials set fall deadline for filing overdue taxes

By State revenue officials set Sept. 30 deadline for tax filings

Montgomery, AL – - Anyone who has been trying to avoid
paying Alabama taxes by using hidden, offshore bank accounts is
going to get leniency from the state government if they come
forward soon.
Alabama Revenue Commissioner Tim Russell says individuals and
businesses that voluntarily disclose their hidden assets and pay
all back taxes plus interest will not be assessed any penalties or
face criminal prosecution from the Revenue Department.
The department is giving people until Sept. 30 to report any
hidden account, file past-due tax returns or amended returns, and
properly report their tax liabilities.
Russell says the federal government had a similar program last
year that was successful.
