Ala tax collections for education improve in May

By Revenues for education trust fund surge in May

Montgomery, AL – - New figures show taxes collected by
Alabama's Education Trust Fund rose by 5.3 percent in May compared
to May 2009, but the total for the fiscal year remains behind the
figure for a year earlier.
The state finance department said Thursday the trust fund
collected $506.9 million in May, an increase of $25.6 million
compared to May 2009.
For the fiscal year so far, from October through May, the trust
fund collected $3.53 billion, a drop of $50.7 million, or 1.4
percent.
Acting state Finance Director Bill Newton says he has no plans
to recommend changing this year's budgeted trust fund spending
because of the tax-collection report.
