Ala legislators say no to teacher code of ethics

By Lawmakers back decision to block teacher code of ethics

Montgomery, AL – - The Alabama Legislature has voted to go
along with a decision by its regulatory body to block enforcement
of a code of ethics for Alabama teachers.
The Alabama Education Association had urged legislators to block
enforcement of the ethics code saying it was too vague. The ethics
code was adopted by the Alabama Board of Education.
The Alabama House voted 43-32 Thursday for a resolution
supporting the action of the regulatory body known as the
Legislative Council.
The Senate had voted 18-10 Tuesday to support the action
blocking the ethics code. The resolution now goes to Gov. Bob Riley
for his signature. The governor supports the ethics policy and
could veto the resolution.
