Ala legislators get involved in ASU arena name change

By Legislators pass resolution to rename ASU Acadome

Montgomery, AL – - The Alabama Legislature has renamed
Alabama State University's arena in honor of longtime political
leader Joe Reed of Montogmery.
The trustees of the Montgomery university originally named the
Acadome after Reed in 1991 because of his many years of work on
behalf of his alma mater. Then the trustees stripped his name off
in 2008 after he criticized and sued the trustees.
The Legislature passed a resolution to name the building in
Reed's honor last month and the governor let the resolution take
effect without his signature.
Reed said that will supercede a vote by the trustees last month
to name the arena after two former basketball coaches, Charles
Johnson "C.J." Dunn and James V. Oliver.
