Ala jobless rate inches upward in November

By Ala. unemployment rate rises slightly to 9 percent

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's unemployment has increased
slightly to 9 percent.
State Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees said Friday the
November rate compares to 8.9 percent in October and is better than
the 10.9 percent recorded a year ago.
Surtees said Alabama's rate remains well below the national
unemployment figure of 9.8 percent.
Counties with the highest unemployment rate in November were
Wilcox at 20.7 percent, Greene at 18.3 percent, and Dallas at 16.8
percent. Counties with the lowest rates were Shelby at 6.7 percent,
Coffee at 7.0 percent, and Madison at 7.1 percent.
