By New immunizations required for Ala school children
Montgomery, AL – - State officials say Alabama children will
be required to receive two additional vaccinations as a result of
health officials changing their recommendations.
The shift, based on the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention advisory committee on immunization practices, will
affect preschoolers and students entering sixth grade.
Children 2 months to 59 months old enrolled in home daycare
centers or in child care must receive the pneumococcal conjugate
vaccine, or PCV. The vaccination helps prevent bloodstream
infections, such as sepsis, as well as meningitis.
Children entering the sixth grade this fall must have the
tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis, or Tdap, vaccine if they
are 11 or older.
