By Ala. judge to back Artur Davis run for governor
Birmingham, AL –
(AP) - Alabama's first black federal judge has
endorsed U.S. Rep Artur Davis for governor.
Davis is trying to become Alabama's first black governor.
Judge U.W. Clemon became Alabama's first black federal judge in
1980 when appointed by President Carter. Clemon said Davis is his
choice for governor because he is best qualified to lead the state.
Clemon said he's seen Davis grow and develop from a young lawyer
into a well-regarded statesman in both Alabama and the nation.
State Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks is also seeking the
Democratic nomination for governor. The two meet in the Democratic
primary on June 1.
