Ala Congressional races prompt runoffs in Demo and GOP primaries

Montgomery, AL – - Both the Democratic and Republican races
in the 7th congressional district appear headed toward runoffs.
Jefferson County Commissioner Shelia Smoot and attorney Terri
Sewell are leading two other candidates in the Democratic race, but
neither has more than half the vote.
Among Republicans, Don Chamberlain and Chris Salter are ahead in
a four-candidate field.
Congressman Artur Davis gave up the 7th District seat in the heavily
Democratic district to run for governor.

- Montgomery City Council member Martha
Roby and tea party activist Rick Barber will meet in a runoff in
the race for the Republican nomination in the 2nd congressional
district in southeast Alabama.
Roby and Barber finished ahead of state school board member
Stephanie Bell and former U.S. Marine John "Fighting Beau"
McKinney to make the runoff.
They're seeking the chance to challenge Democratic Congressman Bobby
Bright in the fall.
