Ala attorney general praises ruling in federal health care case

By King, Strange praise ruling on new health care law

Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Troy King and
the man who will replace him next month have both praised a ruling
by a federal judge in Virginia that a key provision of the new
federal health care law is unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson ruled in a lawsuit by the state
of Virginia that the provision in the health care law that requires
individual citizens to purchase private health insurance is
unconstitutional.
King said Hudson's ruling reaffirms that the power of the
federal government is limited. Luther Strange, who takes over as
attorney general on Jan. 17, called the ruling "a victory" for
Alabama residents. King and Strange are both Republicans.
Alabama has joined 19 other states in a similar lawsuit
challenging the health care law.
