Abortion Trial Continues

The owner of an abortion clinic Montgomery testified Monday that for the nearly four decades she's been in business, she has always used out-of-town doctors who wouldn't be able to admit patients to local hospitals as required under a new state law.  June Ayers, the owner of Reproductive Health Services, was the first witness in a trial of a lawsuit over Alabama's new law.  The federal trial resumes today in Montgomery. 

Manhunt Ends

Authorities in Autauga County say a suspect who was the subject of a manhunt that lasted several hours Monday is behind bars today.  37-year-old Christopher Wingard had been wanted on multiple felony theft charges in Millbrook.  Autauga County Sheriff's officials said Wingard was apprehended in Pine Level just before 7 p.m.  Wingard was placed in the Autauga Metro Jail and will be turned over to Millbrook Police sometime today. 

Bond Hearing

Five suspects charged in connection with two recent home invasions in Elmore County appeared in Elmore County District Court Monday for a bond hearing.  Dezal Lewis, Ikevius Summerlin, Debouys Bozeman, Maurise Wilkes and Brittany Richardson were arrested in March.  The five each face robbery and burglary charges linked to two home invasions in the Wallsboro Community.  Elmore County District Randall Houston said in one o the incidents, the homeowner was bound and beaten with a pistol.  A judge denied a request to reduce bond for the five defendants. 

Boyfriend Charged

A Perry County man is in jail charged with the murder of his girlfriend.  Perry County Sheriff James Hood and District Attorney Michael Jackson said 21-year-old Eric King is accused in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Jonika Smith of Marion.  The DA said the victim was shot to death Sunday night at a residence in the Sprott Community.  King was taken into custody on Monday and charged with Smith's murder.  King's bond was set at $1,000,000. 

MPS Graduations Online

The Montgomery Public School System is making it easier to access high school graduation ceremonies, MPS announced Monday that six Montgomery Public Schools graduation will be streamed live over the Internet this week. 

The Montgomery Technical Education Center and Brewbaker Tech's graduations both will stream live on May 23rd at 6 p.m. 

Carver Senior High's graduation will stream live on May 24th at 9:30 a.m.  Also, Lee High School's graduation will stream live on May 24th at 2:30 p.m. 

Jeff Davis High School will stream live May 25th at 1:30 p.m. and Lanier High School's graduation also will stream live on the same day at 6 p.m. 

ASU Football

The Alabama State University football team will play a pair of Thursday games this season.  The Hornets have released their 2014 football schedule.  It includes an opener against Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas, on August 30th.  ASU also tangles with Tennessee State on September 6th.  Of course, there is the Annual Magic City Classic on October 26th versus intrastate rival Alabama A&M in Birmingham.  Stillman College will be the opponent in this year's Turkey Day Classic on Saturday, November 22nd.  ASU Athletics officials say season tickets go on sale Wednesday at 9 a.m.
