Abortion Regulation Blocked By Federal Judge

A federal judge has blocked an Alabama abortion regulation that could have permanently closed the state's busiest abortion clinic, saying the rule was unnecessary to protect women.  U.S. District Myron Thompson issued a temporary restraining order last week blocking the regulation concerning the West Alabama Women's Center in Tuscaloosa.  He followed up with an 81-page opinion issued Thursday.  The 2007 health regulation requires clinics to hire a physician with hospital-admitting privileges to handle patient complications.  The clinic filed a lawsuit challenging it.  The clinic filed a lawsuit challenging it.  The clinic compiled with the regulation for years, but said it was unable to meet the requirement after its longtime doctor retired.  

Donation Center Theft

Police in Auburn are seeking a burglar wanted for stealing cash after breaking into a Salvation Army donation center.  The Opelika-Auburn New reports a video surveillance camera recorded images of the burglar.  The Auburn Police Division says the man caused more than $1,000 in damage and took an undisclosed amount of money during the break-in Monday.  Police says the suspect appears to about 30 to 40 years old and about 250 pounds.  Video shows him in a purple shirt with blue jeans and white shoes.

Troy has hired former Southern Miss administrator Jeremy McClain as its athletic director.  McClain was introduced Friday after three years as deputy director of athletics at Southern Miss.  He replaces John Hartwell, who left in July to become vice president and athletic director at Utah State.
