2014 Voter Registration

Today is the deadline for Alabamians hoping to vote in the November 4th general election.  Voters may download registration forms online or visit their local boards of registrars' offices during business hours.  Voters may also find sample ballots and information on statewide constitutional amendments that will appear on the ballot online.

Ebola Scare

An elderly woman involved in Friday's Ebola scare was released from Baptist Medical South on Saturday.  The 83-year-old woman had complained of Ebola-like symptoms at an eye clinic on Zelda Road.  Doctors determined the woman has no risk of the illness.  Mayor Todd Strange said city and hospital officials will review their handling of the Ebola threat.  Federal health officials have revised guidelines for health care workers who come in contact with Ebola patients.  Now they are to wear protective gear with no skin showing.

AG Race

The race for state attorney general has become one of the most contentious in Alabama this election season with the two candidates trading accusations over gambling, donors and priorities.  Incumbent Luther Strange and Democrat Joe Hubbard face each other in the November 4th election for state attorney general.

Human Trafficking

Not many people realize it, but human trafficking does take place in Alabama.  In fact, there's been a slight increase in cases in the northern part of the state.  Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama Jerusha Adams says more often than not the victims are those without homes.  Adams says most cases in Alabama involve sex trafficking rather than forced labor.  The Middle District of Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force met last week and decided to increase law enforcement participation in the unit.
