Alabama lawmakers will enter their 2014 session Tuesday with more to spend on education programs but less for non-education program. The legislative fiscal office director, Norris Green says the money available for education programs will be about $134 million more than this year's $5.8 billion education budget.
Animal Cruelty
Prosecutors say two people accused of hanging a puppy at a house in Valley Grande are charged with animal cruelty. Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Michael Jackson says 26-year-old Caroline Dunnam and 23-year-old Andrew Parrish are each accused of hanging a small mixed breed puppy by its neck from the ceiling.
Hunting Accidents
Two men died in hunting accidents in Alabama over the weekend. Investigators say 50-year-old James Raymond Landers was hunting in the Pineywood area of Tallapoosa County when he sustained a gunshot wound Sunday. In Blount County, coroner's officials say 37-year-old Adam Scott Jordan was shot by another hunter. Both shootings were accidental.
