Montgomery, Alabama – Alabama Governor Bob Riley says the state will take the $170 million that the federal government is releasing this week for Medicaid funding. Riley says the money for the Medicaid Program will help "fill some gaps" in the state's general fund budget.
Montgomery, Alabama – The Alabama Department of Transportation expects to receive anywhere from $500 to $550 million in economic stimulus funding. Tony Harris, a spokesman for Transportation Department, says the money will be used on projects that are "shovel ready" or that can begin within 120 days of receipt of federal dollars.

Montgomery, Alabama – It's costing more to fill up gas tanks in Alabama. AAA Alabama's recent survey finds the state wide average for regular gasoline is five cents higher than it was a month ago. AAA Alabama shows the average statewide price for regular gasoline is $1.79 per gallon while the national average is $1.91.
AAA's daily fuel gauge report finds mid-grade averages $1.91 while premium costs $1.97 a gallon.
Decatur, Alabama – DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - State Rep. Sue Schmitz told jurors in her fraud trial Thursday that she took a job in the two-year college system to stay in the teachers' retirement system. A Democrat from Toney, Schmitz is accused of using her influence as a legislator to get the job in a program that mentors troubled teenagers and then rarely showing up for work as she collected $177,000 over three years. Andalusia, Alabama – ANDALUSIA, Ala. (AP) - A Georgia man escaped injury when he was forced to land his single-engine plane in a cotton field in southeast Alabama. Covington County, Ala., authorities said a plane piloted by 26-year-old Jonathan Lord of Columbus lost power and went down in the Babbie community. It happened Thursday afternoon. Lord suffered minor injuries. The plane's landing gear was sheared off, but was otherwise intact.
