American Graduate: Let's make it happen 2012/2013

Join WVAS-FM For American Graduate: Inspiring ASPIRE a red-carpet premiere featuring a student made documentary of the ASPIRE program. Thursday May 9 at the Capri Theater beginning at 6pm. Free and open to the public. Food will be served.

The ASPIRE program, headed by Cynthia Handy, is a drop-out prevention program designed to give high school and middel school students alternative activities after school. Housed on the campus of Alabama State University students participate in skill and character-building activities to help enrich what they are already learning in the classroom.

ASPIRE students teamed with WVAS-FM's production team to produce a documentary showcasing Handy's efforts through the ASPIRE program.

American Graduate is a public media initiative funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to help local communities across America find solutions to address the dropout crisis. The initiative builds on public media's long-standing commitment to education by convening conversations and strengthening partnerships between public radio and television stations and local schools, businesses and community organizations to help students stay on the path to a high school diploma.
